Nutritional information on wine labels: New EU rules from 2023
Since December 8, 2023, wine producers in the European Union have been required to include nutritional information on the label. The aim of this new regulation is to better inform consumers about the contents of wine.
Wine labels must state the number of calories, which can either be printed directly on the label or made available via a QR code. Other nutritional values, such as carbohydrates and sugars, are optional and can be accessed via a QR code.
This measure is part of a broader movement towards greater transparency about alcoholic beverages, similar to the labeling requirements for non-alcoholic products.
This is turning the wine world upside down! But at PURE The Winery, we have been transparent about the nutritional values of our Zero Sugar Wines for years. Not hidden behind a QR code, but clearly stated on a real nutritional label, as you are used to with other foods. This way, you always know exactly what you are drinking — and especially what you are not drinking: no sugar, no carbohydrates, and fewer calories.
Did you know that every batch of our wines is tested in two different laboratories? These tests guarantee that our wines really contain no sugar and no carbohydrates. Only after approval are we allowed to state on the label that our wines contain 0 grams of sugar and 0 grams of carbohydrates.
